Lucia Scalisi began her career in Conservation at the Victoria and Albert Museum after receiving her Diploma in the Conservation of Easel Paintings from the University of Northumbria (formerly Gateshead Technical College). She worked as Senior Conservator of Paintings at the V&A, after which she set up a Conservation Studio in private practice in central London, and has been heavily involved with projects around the World. Since 2017, she has become a familiar face on the BBC's ‘ The Repair Shop ’, in which Lucia is the Paintings Conservation expert.

Peter Randall-Page, RA, is a British artist and sculptor, known for his stone sculpture work, inspired by geometric patterns from nature. Born in the UK in 1954, he studied sculpture at Bath Academy of Art from 1973-1977. During the past 40 years Peter Randall-Page has gained an international reputation through his sculpture, drawings, and prints. His work is held in public and private collections throughout the world. A selection of his public sculptures can be found in many urban and rural locations throughout the UK including London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Bristol, Oxford and Cambridge and his work is in the permanent collections of the Tate Gallery and the British Museum, amongst others. His practice has always been informed and inspired by the study of natural phenomena and its subjective impact on our emotions. In recent years his work has become increasingly concerned with the underlying principles determining growth and the forms it produces. In his words “geometry is the theme on which nature plays her infinite variations, and can be seen as a kind of pattern book on which the most complex and sophisticated structures are based.”

I am captivated by the land, sea and sky bleeding together with no fixed horizons and fascinated by birds that glide and dart through the sky. They too are following ancient routes invisible to the naked eye but predetermined by their ancestors much as modern day shipping and ley lines are to us. Recreating the view or a particular subject is something I am trying to avoid. In my latest work I am trying to convey the atmosphere and sensory experience of that particular place or subject, rather than what I am seeing. The textures and patterns are replicated in my paintings using layers of mark making which are often peeled back, rubbed or sanded away to reveal the history of the painting or drawing as it develops. My choice of mediums allow for quick responses to what I am looking at – when drawing outside I love to use water soluble graphite, and pencils, and then back in the studio where I often work from multiple quick sketches, acrylics, ink and oil bars. I especially love the spontaneity of ink and its unpredictable nature and feel its randomness adds life to my work. My love of open, expansive space, colour, and texture is what I try and convey in my paintings, with the hope that I can draw the viewer in for a closer look. The use of mark making and pattern, built up in layers is a process that I will continue to explore.

PATRICK HUGHES,

Patrick held his first solo show in 1961 at the Portal Gallery, London. It was the first one-man show by a Pop Artist, though they were not even called that then. Three and four years later, Hughes made two seminal reverse perspective works, Infinity and Sticking-out Room. But in the 1970s Hughes’ name became synonymous with rainbow paintings, which also became very popular as prints and as postcards; people enjoyed them as decoration, but for Hughes the rainbow represented a solidified experience. In the late 1980s Hughes revisited exploiting the difference between perspective and reverspective and making space, frozen but mobile. For the last 25 years his 3-D perspective paintings have been hugely in demand, exhibited around the world and featured in many public collections. The experience of seeing a Patrick Hughes sculptured painting in reality is really to experience unreality and the paradox of illusory space and movement.

Patrick has always loved great clothes; how they feel, how they age, the stories they can tell and the way they can connect us across time and place. As a result his career in the textile industry saw him establish his firm Community Clothing in 2016.
Away from his day job, Patrick is also well known as a judge on BBC One’s The Great British Sewing Bee which has run for nine series educating a new generation about textiles and clothing, encouraging a reduction in clothing consumption, and promoting a resurgence in the skills needed to make, mend and recycle our clothes.

I create one off original pieces of contemporary silk textile art and acrylic paintings on canvas. Inspiration for my artwork comes from nature and the natural environment also buildings, architecture and decay. My work captures fleeting moments in nature’s continuing cycle of creation, destruction and change. Main themes are rich carpets of leaves, gnarled grainy texture of bark, fine lacework of lichens and the pebbles of the beach and rock pools of the coastline. I am drawn to the beauty, which is caused by the passage of time and exposure to the natural elements. Destruction, neglect and decay reveal even more interesting surfaces, shapes, textures and patterns. These rich textures, colours and details which often go unnoticed at first glance, inspire my work. Exhibited in London & South East, Spain and Florida USA.

Emmie is a mixed media artist whose inspiration comes from journeys, mystical tales and the eclectic architecture she has encountered. Her work often examines the transitory nature of buildings from their planning and construction to their ruins and its structure revealed. Magical realism is an integral part of Emmie’s art, which may start out based on one place but ends as a coalescence of memories from the past, sights of the present and thoughts of the future. Brian began painting soon after moving to Devon and quickly gained a reputation for his bright and colourful pictures. his work have featured in several television programmes both in the South West and on national networks. Exhibitions followed in Plymouth and later in London, two of which were favourably reviewed for the Mail on Sunday by the late art critic Dan Farson. Brian is honoured to be a patron of St. Luke's Hospice, Plymouth, who commissioned him to paint the first elephant for Elmer's Big Parade, launched in July 2019. Jerram was given honorary doctorates from the University of Bristol in 2020 and University of Gloucestershire in 2022. He was made an Honorary Academician of the RWA and Fellow of The Royal Astronomical Society in 2020. He currently holds position of Honorary Research Fellow in the School of Biosciences, University of Sheffield. In 2019 he set up and funded both the Dreamtime Fellowship to support recent art graduates in his home city of Bristol and the Bristol Schools Arts Fund to support secondary schools impacted by austerity. In 2024 he set up the Jerram Foundation to help deliver some of these charitable projects.
